Alright guys, this is my first ever blog post, so don't be too harsh in your criticisms. I could tell you about myself but I feel like nobody is really interested in knowing who I am really so I'll just cut to the chase. I've been inspired by etrain to start my own running blog, and I'll warn you guys now, I don't think I'll be in touch so much as he is (I've got a lot on my plate right now). As you can see by the title, I'm really only going to talk about District 1, since a) it's the district I'm in and b) it's the only district that I can really have an opinion. Honestly, I don't know where I'm going to take this blog, I'm just gonna do it. So, here we go!
States just wrapped up this past Saturday and I couldn't be more proud of everybody that ran there! I personally didn't go, (I'm not that fast...yet). I wasn't too surprised that Henderson took the title, I was really impressed with the way they've been running all season. As for O'Hara, that has got to be a heart breaker. But I will say that last year should have stung, but as for this year, they should hold their heads high. In my opinion they lost to the better team (unlike last year). As for Tony Russell, I say bravo. Pulling off a 15:45 on the states course no small accomplishment and I give him my congrats. I am excited to see what Russell will do next year (sub 15 perhaps?)
I'm a little disappointed in West Chester East's performance. I think that they placed lower than they should have. I think that they had the stuff to crack the top 5 with Rogers, Cummings, Diestelow, Hughes, Crump and Dubinski, but that goes to show how little I know. Hopefully they can bounce back for next year and put themselves at the top of the contention list.
Now for Great Valley. I noticed on etrain's blog that a lot of people wrote off Great Valley (including myself) but when I saw them at Ches Monts pulling within 2 of WCE I knew that they weren't going to miss states. With Willig leading the charge Great Valley found itself missing out on a top five finish by 15 points in Hershey, followed by Wolffe, Doran, Zatlin, Dudt, Kilroy and Flanagan. I hope their holding their heads high because they far exceeded expectations placed on them. Don't be surprised if they find themselves in the top 5 next year, despite losing seniors Wolffe and Dudt.
I want to leave you guys with a question:
Will West Chester Henderson's XC team be untouchable next year?
